India are in deep trouble against Australia in the Third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. After winning the toss, India skipper Rohit Sharma opted to bat first. The decision didn’t go well for Men in Blue as they were bundled up by visitors for 109 runs in just one and a half sessions.

India failed to hold nerves against Australian spinners on the rank turner wicket and lost wickets at regular intervals. However, Indore’s pitch offered a very sharp turn, which rattled even Cheteshwar Pujara, who has been India’s best Test batter for a long time.

It was the second ball of the ninth over that had Pujara getting out with a delivery that turned sharply. Senior Australia spinner Nathan Lyon pitched the ball outside off stump while Pujara tried to punch it towards point. The ball gripped the surface and took a steep turn toward Pujara and rattled his wickets, leaving him and his teammates in shock. The facial expression of India skipper Rohit Sharma said it all. Later, broadcasters revealed that the ball turned around 6.3 degrees.

Captain Rohit Sharma failed to capitalize on chances

Earlier in the game, India made two changes in playing XI. KL Rahul, who has been inconsistent throughout the series, was replaced by Shubman Gill, while Umesh Yadav replaced Mohammed Shami. Shami was rested for workload management.

The match got a very interesting start as India skipper Rohit Sharma got out twice in the very first over. However, he was not given out by on-field umpire Nitin Manon and survived Mitchell Starc’s opening over. Despite that, Rohit failed to make that count as he soon got impatient and was dismissed by Kuhnemann while trying to go for a big shot.

India got bowled out for 109 runs in 33.2 overs as Australian spinners troubled the hosts throughout the innings. Matthew Kuhnemann, along with Nathan Lyon and Tod Murphy, took 5, 3, and 1 wickets respectively. Virat Kohli was India’s top scorer as he scored 22 runs off 52 balls.
