Former Australian Captain Michael Clarke is on the verge of losing his commentary contract for the Border Gavaskar Trophy in 2023 after a video of him having a fierce argument with his girlfriend has taken the internet by storm. The former right-handed batter was involved in a bitter dispute with his girlfriend Jade Yarbrough when they were holidaying in Noosa Queensland.

In the video, which was caught on camera, Clarke can be seen being slapped by Yarbrough. She accused the former Australian skipper of cheating which he vehemently denies. The video is of three minutes and since it is taken from far away the quality appears distorted and the visuals unclear. Only the audio was crystal clear. Yarbrough can be seen shouting about Clarke’s rumoured relationship with his ex-girlfriend Pip Edwards, who is well known in the fashion designing arena.

Cricket Australia has launched an investigation into the matter

“You want to send her to India with you?’ Yarbrough screams loudly in the video. “I have seen the texts. ‘You’re the love of my life Pip, come with me to India’,” she said before she slaps Clarke hard across his face even as he is seen begging that he is innocent. Clarke was present with Yarbrough, her sister Jasmine and her husband Karl Stefanovic.

There were claims that the 41-year-old had missed out on a potential deal with a skincare brand. Cricket Australia have launched an investigation into the matter even though they have not given an official comment yet. Clarke could not get a commentary contract for the India Test series as the final say in awarding or cancellation of contracts rests with Star Sports.

Clarke has put out an apology for his behaviour. “I’m absolutely gutted I’ve put people I hold in the highest regard in this position. My actions in the lead-up to this altercation were nothing short of shameful and regrettable. I own this fully and am the only one at fault,” he said to the Daily Telegraph.
