‘Lord Bavuma changed their fate…’- Fans react as Sunrisers Eastern Cape win maiden SA20 title
Sunrisers Eastern Cape became the champions of SA20, 2023 on Sunday.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape beat Pretoria Capitals by four wickets to become the champions of the inaugural season SA20 league at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on Sunday. Sunrisers after winning the toss restricted Capitals to a below-par score of 135 runs. Roelof van der Merwe shined with the bowl for the Sunrisers as he clinched four wickets. His bowling tore apart the capitals batting lineup and the table topper of the league eventually lost the game.
Put into bat first, Capitals failed to hold their nerves and lost wickets at regular intervals. They started well and scored 33 runs in just the first four overs but then the capitals collapsed and never came back into the game.
Sri Lankan batter Kusal Mendis proved to be their best batter as he scored 21 runs off 19 balls. Sisanda Magala, Marco Janesan, Captain Aiden Markram, and Ottniel Baartman also shined with the bowl for the Sunrisers.
Chasing 136 runs in the final, Sunrisers lost opener Temba Bavuma at the score of 11 in the second over of the game. Another opener Adam Rossington made a brilliant half-century and led the Sunrisers to clinch the victory.
Rossington scored 57 runs off 30 balls and added 67 runs for the second wicket with Jordan Hermann. Pacer Marco Jansen hit the winning runs in the final with a six on the second delivery of the 17th over. Following the victory, the elated Sunrisers Eastern Cape players celebrated in the style.
However, this victory didn’t go well with South Africa captain Temba Bavuma as netizens trolled him for not performing well in the tournament. A fan took a dig at him and wrote, “Temba Bavuma changed the fate of the team.”
Fans demand Aiden Markram to be captain in Indian T20 League
Sunrisers Eastern Cape captain Aiden Markram led the team from the front and won the title for the Orange Army. Although, Markram also won the Player of the tournament award for his all-round performance throughout the tournament. Watching his leadership qualities, fans of the Hyderabad franchise asked owners to make him captain for the upcoming season.
