Watch: Melbourne Stars batters run four before ball was cut off by fielders near boundary rope

The Big Bash League (BBL) has been wonderful to watch, and the level of cricket has been top-notch. This season, despite a busy summer, international Australian players such as David Warner, Steve Smith and Usman Khawaja are playing in this year’s BBL. This has provided another reason for fans to come and watch the league other than the cricket on offer.
In the 44th match of the BBL, a bizarre incident happened, the Melbourne Stars and the Brisbane Heat squared off against each other. The Heat won the toss and chose to bowl. The Melbourne Cricket Ground played host to the game. The Stars were put into bat. It was a home game for them. The Stars did not have the best of starts.

Joe Clarke fell early to Michael Neser. He scored four runs off just 9 balls. Thomas Rogers came in and hit 26 runs off 23 balls with three boundaries. He was dismissed by Matt Renshaw. Hilton Cartwright could not get going and was dismissed for 7 runs off 6 balls by Khawaja off the bowling of Spencer Jhonson.
Right after the fall of Clarke’s wicket, a bizarre incident happened. Cartwright before he got out, played a shot with an open bat to beat the backward point fielder of Neser’s bowling the ball beat backward point to his left. It was a long chase and the big boundary sizes at the MCG allowed Cartwright to collect four runs to his name by running between the wickets. This was not a four but the batter had run each run individually and ended up collecting four against his name.
The batters running all four runs is something that is not often seen in a cricket match. Such situations only take place when the ground is big, and the boundaries are long. Australia as a venue fits these parameters and so allows the batters to score runs by running between the wickets. In Australia along with boundaries the runs are earned by running quickly between the wickets. The Stars ended their innings at 159-7.
