Big Bash, one of the premium T20 tournaments is known to produce some high-quality cricket. It is often that catches and sixes from the domestic event go viral for the sheer amount of talent required to achieve those.

One such moment (or three) that is getting increasingly viewed on social media is Matt Gilkes’ three sixes in a Big Bash match. The southpaw was batting for Sydney Thunder and played a match-winning knock of 56 off 34 to take his team across the finish line.

All of his three sixes were hit on the straight and had a familiarity with each other. He hit the first six at 34, the second at 44 and the third at an individual score of 50. His second six in particular is getting noticed for an entirely different reason altogether.

It is quite normal for spectators to catch the ball when six lands in their stand. Often times however they fail to do so since they are not professional cricketers. Sometimes, it also lands on other body parts than hands. It was the same case for the second six as it hit the face of one spectator after he tried to catch it.

Here’s the video:

The commentators were heard flinching after watching the fans get hit in the face by the ball. As for the match, it was a straightforward victory for Sydney Thunders who chased down the 121/6 run target in just 11.4 overs.

Matthew Gilkes (56) and Alex Hales (59) made a mockery of the total as they subjected Brisbane Heat bowlers to aggressive batting. Hales hit 10 fours whereas Gilkes hit 6 fours and 3 sixes on his way to a quality half-century.

As a result of this win, Thunders have moved to 5th position with 2 wins in 5 games. Heat meanwhile remain at the bottom of the table with just 1 win in 5 games so far.
