Shardul Thakur is playing for India A at the moment. The one-day games against New Zealand A are being played at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium. The stadium is lovingly known as the Chepauk for the Chennai fans. Chepauk has been a big fortress for Chennai and they have won many games there.
Chennai have thrived in the conditions at Chepauk because they have had the setup, resources, and support staff to thrive on the turning pitches in Chennai. Chennai have a loyal ‘yellove’ army who rallies behind the franchise in all matches in the Indian T20 League and are loyal supporters of the Chennai team. The Chennai team and fans treat their guests like gods, and they look after the players very well.
When Shardul Thakur walked out to bat against New Zealand A, the vociferous crowd at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium gave a rousing reception to Thakur and there were chants of Chennai, Chennai in the video. This was because Shardul Thakur was an integral part of the Chennai side. He was brought by Chennai into their fold in the 2018 season and he did a great job. He solved a lot of problems for Chennai as he brought the right balance in the side with his all-round exploits.
And thus began a fruitful association between Shardul Thakur and Chennai which lasted till 2021. He was part of the winning side in 2021 and the side which emerged runners-up in 2019. Shardul had picked up big wickets for Chennai and also played impactful knocks for them.
The other thing is that Shardul Thakur now plays for Delhi in the Indian T20 League. The rousing reception at the Chepauk speaks volumes about Chennai’s love for Shardul Thakur. In the match against New Zealand A – Shardul played a good knock of 25 runs with 3 fours and a six that helped India A overhaul New Zealand A’s total of 219.
