In the current world Test rankings, Virat Kohli has claimed the No. 6 position. Since March 2022 it has been the first time that Virat Kohli has been in the top 10 of the batting charts in the Test format of cricket. Virat Kohli is the lone Indian batter in the top 10 list of Test as well as ODI.

After a solid batting performance in the two-match Test series against South Africa Virat Kohli has risen to the top 10. In the first innings of the Boxing Day against South Africa in Centurion he scored 38 runs followed by a crucial knock of 76 runs in the second innings. Eventually, India lost the second Test match by an innings and 32 runs. He is not available for the first two Test matches against England due to personal problems. Although his availability is not confirmed for the remaining matches.

Virat Kohli’s great comeback in all formats

After a bad patch in Test cricket, Virat Kohli is making a good comeback in the longest format of the game. In 2020 and 2022 Virat Kohli’s average was over 40 only. In 8 Tests he scored 671 runs which included 2 hundreds with an average of 54.73.

While Kane Williamson of New Zealand still leads the Test ranking spots. Joe Root and Steve Smith are placed 2nd and 3rd respectively. Indian Test team captain Rohit Sharma is in 11th position after failing to score runs in South Africa and first Test match against England. In the first Test match against South Africa Rohit Sharma could only manage to score 5 runs against Kagiso Rabada. In the second innings, Rabada bowled an unplayable delivery which knocked Rohit Sharma into stumps, and he went without scoring a run.

After breaking the record of his idol Sachin Tendulkar of most ODI centuries Virat Kohli has claimed the third spot in the ODI ranking list. Virat Kohli scored 765 runs throughout the 2023 World Cup. For four years between 2017 and 2021, Virat Kohli held the No. 1 spot for almost 1258 days.
