The final of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 between Pakistan and England is currently underway at the Melbourne Cricket Stadium. England skipper, Jos Buttler won the toss and opted to bowl first. For Pakistan, they needed Rizwan and Babar to get their team off to a good start. However, the duo struggled to got going.
Pakistan had only managed 16 runs in the first three overs with Rizwan scoring 7 runs in 9 balls. He broke the shackles on the first ball of the fourth over, smacking Woakes for a six over square leg. However, that was the only boundary he hit during his innings.
Sam Curran came into the attack on the next delivery and rattled Rizwan’s stumps as the latter dragged one onto his stumps. As a result, M Rizwan departed after scoring just 15 runs in 14 balls. The fans on Twitter trolled the Pakistan opener brutally following a lackluster knock in the final at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Rizwan has been one of the most consistent batters in the T20 internationals. However, he hasn’t been able to perform as per the expectations in the World Cup. Overall, Rizwan scored 190 runs in 9 matches in the tournament a strike rate of under 110.
The ongoing game against England offered a chance for him to etch multiple records to his name. Prior to the start of the game, he has 981 runs to his name in the shortest format this year. He needed only 19 runs to become the first-ever player to score 1000 runs in a single calendar year twice in the format.
Last year, he amassed 1326 runs in 26 innings, which was also the most by any batter in a single year. Currently, Suryakumar Yadav has the most runs to his name in 2022. He has 1040 runs to his name in 29 matches this year.
