The Indian team is currently full to the brim with young talented players. A similar case is also present with the captaincy with many players ready to captain the national side.
Players like Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul are current Indian players who captain their respective sides in the Indian T20 League. With so many options, deciding who to choose for captaining the Indian side must be really confusing.
Currently, Rishabh Pant has been asked to shoulder the capacity for the India T20I side against South Africa with KL Rahul out with an injury. Notably, Hardik Pandya is also playing in the India- South Africa series and has good credentials when it comes to captaincy.
The right-handed all-rounder was instrumental in propelling Gujarat to their maiden Indian T20 Trophy win with not just his performance but also captaincy. Citing the same, ex-Indian text player Wasim Jaffer has suggested that Pandya should be given the responsibility for India’s captaincy in Rohit Sharma’s absence.
Speaking to ESPN Cricinfo, the former Test batter said, “I think he deserves to be the captain of the side. Going forward, Hardik Pandya, the Indian selectors should look at him in leading the white-ball formats. especially when Rohit is unavailable, he should lead India.”
The ex-cricketer laid massive praise on Pandya’s captaincy and further iterated, “I feel he has all leadership qualities that is required to lead your country. Be it his own skill, man-management or getting the best out of players – he has it all.” Notably, Hardik Pandya claimed Wasim Jaffer as his favourite player a few days ago.
India are currently on the back foot having lost two of three matches against South Africa in the ongoing T20I series. With a win in the last match, the Men in Blue would be looking to make a great comeback into the series and win it.
