The artist is back’- Fans react to Trent Boult wreaking havoc against English top order

The 34-year-old fast bowler created an instant impact in the third over of the game.

The focus of cricket fans around the world is on the India versus Pakistan encounter at Colombo. At Rose Bowl,  England and New Zealand are playing the 2nd match of the four-match ODI series. England had won the first game by 8 wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the series. In the second match, Tom Latham the Kiwi skipper won the toss and chose to bowl first. The game was reduced to 34-over per side contest due to rain. Left-arm pacer Trent Boult made a fine comeback to the New Zealand team. Boult who had opted out of the national team earlier this year made a U-Turn to don the black caps jersey once more.

The 34-year-old fast bowler created an instant impact in the third over of the game. Boult first got the wicket of Jonny Bairstow for 6 caught by Mitchell Santner. This was followed up with the wicket of Joe Root for a 2nd ball duck when he was out leg before. The score was soon 8 for 3 when Boult got the wicket of Ben Stokes for 1 when he was caught by Tim Southee. The English batting was totally at sea against the seam bowling of the Kiwis.

New Zealand won the first ODI by 8 wickets

In the first game, the home side notched up 291/6 from their 50 overs in the game which was played at Cardiff. Jos Buttler the English skipper top scored with 72 off 68 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes. David Malan began with 53-balls 54 to give the home team a fine start. There were half-centuries for Ben Stokes and Liam Livingstone who scored 52 runs each. Stokes got his runs off 69 balls with 3 fours and a six. Livingstone on the other hand scored his 52 off 40 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes.

Chasing 292 to win, New Zealand saw opener Will Young fall for 29, while Henry Nicholls was out for 26. From 117/2 the Kiwi batting pair of Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell took over. Both scored centuries as they added an unbeaten 175-run stand for the third wicket. Conway scored 111 not out off 121 balls with 13 fours and a six. Mitchell, scored 118 off 91 balls with 7 fours and 7 sixes to give the visitors a win by 8 wickets.
