Suryakumar Yadav has been in the form of his life over the last one year as he has scored 1164 runs in 2022. He started 2023 in fine fashion as he played a whirlwind knock against Sri Lanka. He scooped, swept and smashed his way to 112 off 51 balls with seven fours and nine sixes. This is his third T20I hundred in the shortest format.
The combination of orthodox and unorthodox shots is Suryakumar Yadav’s unique ability and also it is what sets him apart from someone like AB de Villiers who was renowned for playing shots that were out of this world against the best of bowlers when De Villiers was at his prime. Suryakumar Yadav made his T20I debut at the age of 30 and has been making waves in T20I and ODI cricket.
Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav have bonded well in the Indian Team
After Suryakumar played a whirlwind knock against the Sri Lankans and blew them away to give India a 2-1 series win in the T20Is. Virat Kohli the former India captain took to Instagram and put up an appreciation post for Suryakumar. The two have had a close bond together and are fondly called as ‘Survir’ by fans. In one of the T20I hundreds that Suryakumar had scored, Kohli had mentioned that he felt like Suryakumar was playing a video game like innings.
This gives an insight into the kind of batter Suryakumar is as he plays the ball to different parts of the ground and also possesses more than one shot per ball which allows him to stay one step ahead of the bowler. This is what happened to Sri Lanka at Rajkot as they came underprepared for Suryakumar and were unsure where to bowl to him.
Though the right-handed batter made his debut when he was 30. He took the world by storm as he hit Jofra Archer for four off his first ball in his debut game. His experience at the Indian T20 League and also different roles that he played at Kolkata in the middle order and for Mumbai in the top order have helped him seamlessly transform into an India player.
