Team India lost the first Test match of the 2-match series by an innings and 32 runs against South Africa on Day 3 in Centurion. Notably, the visiting sides failed to create history as they have never won any Test series in South African conditions since 1992. However, Suryakumar Yadav-led Team India drew the T20I series by 1-1, whereas KL Rahul-led visiting sides won the ODI series by 2-1 on December 21 at Boland Park in Paarl.

Speaking about the game here, South African skipper Temba Bavuma won the toss and invited Team India to bat first. Notably, after being sent to bat first, Rohit Sharma and Co. had an awful start as the top order faltered and they were crumbling for 23/3 at the start of the game. However, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer scored 68 runs to post some runs on board. Meanwhile, KL Rahul took on himself at number 6 and smashed a brilliant tonne to help India post 245 runs before getting all out.

However, South Africa had a wonderful start as Dean Elgar hammered a brilliant knock of 185 runs, featuring 28 boundaries, to put his side in a commanding position. In addition, Marco Jansen also batted brilliantly at the lower order, which gave India a huge target.

Team India’s batting failed on Day 3, which gave them a great loss

However, Team India again failed with batting as Rohit Sharma departed for a duck while Yashasvi Jaiswal was out for 5 runs. In addition, Shubman Gill also got out for 26 runs. However, no other batter except Virat Kohli was able to score runs in double digits, which made them lose the first Test game on Day 3. Rohit talked about the embarrassing loss in the post-match presentation.

“We were not good enough to win. Having put into bat, KL batted well to get us that score but then we didn’t exploit the conditions with the ball and then again didn’t show up today with the bat. If we have to win Test matches, we have to come together collectively and we didn’t do that. Guys have come here before, we know what to expect and everyone has their own plan. Our batters were challenged and we didn’t adapt well.” Rohit was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
