Amidst all the criticism following India’s semi-final loss to England in the 20-20 World Cup 2022, legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar feels that the fans and the cricket experts need not have to be too harsh on the players and should give some time to the selection committee for making decisions with regard to making changes in the 20-20 team.

“Let’s not talk about wholesale changes just because we have lost one match. We are very famous for our knee-jerk reactions and having a go at our team. I don’t think that is the right way. Yes, I think that hard calls need to be taken and hopefully, the selection committee would take them,” Gavaskar said.

He felt that India’s inability to cash in on the power play led to their downfall in the semi-final encounter. The former cricketer is also expecting the selection committee to be making changes after the New Year.

“I think the lack of winning the powerplays. Whenever we are beaten in the powerplays, we struggle to win,” Gavaskar said.

“Yes, I think that will engage the selection committee’s mind. If any change is going to happen, it will start after New Year once the domestic Indian season begins,” Gavaskar added.

Team India made a rollicking start at the 20-20 World Cup 2022 with two back-to-back wins against Pakistan and the Netherlands. They lost their third match against South Africa but still managed to finish the Super 12 stage at the top of the table in Group 2.

India played the 2nd semi-final of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 against England in Adelaide and managed to score 168 runs in the first innings. However, they couldn’t pick a single wicket in the second innings as England chased down the total in just 16 overs with 10 wickets in hand.
