The debate over the Asia Cup 2023 venues does not seem to be over any time soon, but the coming week could prove crucial. Pakistan is hosting the tournament but the event may be shifted to a neutral venue as the Indian Cricket Board has refused to send their men to the neighboring country due to security reasons.

This forced the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to propose a hybrid model to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), which would see Pakistan play their matches and India play their matches at neutral venues. Recently, the PCB chairman Najam Sethi stated that “England could be a possibility as a venue for the Asia Cup”.

There were reports that India and the other ACC members have denied Pakistan’s new approach to ensure a smooth passage of play between the two teams. However, it now seems like the reports are to be believed, as Bangladesh and Sri Lanka also doesn’t want to hold a multi-nation ICC event and want the tournament to be played at a neutral venue.

However, it now seems that reports are to be believed as Bangladesh and Sri Lanka also do not want to host a multi-nation Cricket Governing Body event and want the tournament to be played at a neutral venue. There has been no official confirmation from the ACC but looking at recent developments, the final call may come next week.

Shammi Silva, who has been re-elected as the president of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), is expected to attend the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 play-offs alongside other dignitaries. Silva confirmed that discussions on the 2023 Asia Cup will take place during their trip to India.

“We have been invited to witness IPL play-offs in India and during that trip there will be discussions on the Asia Cup 2023. Nothing has been decided yet. But I think the fate of Asia Cup 2023 will be decided over the next week or so” Silva told reporters in Sri Lanka on Sunday.
