In big news for Pakistan Cricket, Inzamam-ul-Haq has been reappointed as chief selector of the Pakistan Cricket Team for the second time. Inzamam was previously appointed during the 2016-2019 period where Pakistan won the 2017 Champions Trophy and played the 2019 World Cup. The three-member technical committee comprising of Inzamam, Mohammed Hafeez and Mishbah-ul-Haq will deliberate on the new selection committee.

It remains to be seen whether Grant Bradburn the head coach and Mickey Authur director of cricket operations will continue to be a part of the selection committee. “The Cricket Technical Committee members including Misbah ul Haq, Inzamam and Muhammad Hafeez have been discussing the new selection committee and it is yet to be decided whether Arthur and Bradburn should remain members on it,” a source said. Misbah will draw up his recommendations to PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf and will also hold talks with skipper Babar Azam.

Pakistan have been granted permission to visit India ahead of the World Cupย

A lot of thinking will be about whether Inzamam should take up the post of chief selector or whether the selection committee has to go through a complete overhaul. Pakistan will be playing in the Asia Cup 2023 which will be hosted by Sri Lanka and the Men in Green via a hybrid model. Inzamam will want to select a winning side so that Pakistan will get confidence ahead of the World Cup in India.

The Pakistan Team was given the go-ahead by the foreign ministry as they okayed their departure for the World Cup in India.ย  Pakistan will try and look to make use of conditions that resemble home and try to win their second World Cup title. Pakistan last won the World Cup in 1992 in Australia. Pakistan gave a good account of themselves in the 20-20 World Cup in Australia as they made it to the final but lost to England.

India last won the Asia Cup in 2018 when it was held in the United Arab Emirates. They beat Bangladesh in a nail-biting finish. The Asian sides will want to prove that they are the kings of Asia in the continental tournament. Pakistan fans will hope the cricket moves upwards with Inzamam coming on board.
