Spirited Germans stun USA in semifinal of Basketball World Cup

Germany has stunned the world’s number 2 side in the ongoing FIBA World Cup 2023. The spirited Germans are having one of the greatest runs by a team in the history of the Basketball World Cup. In the tournament, Germany is yet to lose a match. But the biggest feat for them yet has been beating the tournament favorites, the United States of America, in the semifinal of the tournament.

There is something about Germany that brings out the best from the players when they play on big occasions. In the Hockey World Cup 2023 earlier this year, the Germans defeated the likes of Australia and Belgium, two of the topmost sides in Hockey, and won the World Cup. Germany has knocked out the USA in the Basketball World Cup 2023 by creating history. 

Biggest victory against the USA team consisting of NBA players

In a basketball match featuring the NBA players, Germany registered the highest points for a team in the history of Basketball, which is a tremendous feat. The match was thrilling and eventually had a difference of just two points, as the scoreline read 113-111 in favor of the world number 11 side. It can be called one of the greatest wins in the history of Basketball, particularly in the World Cup.  

The USA, which is known as one of the best Basketball-playing nations, has failed to win the World Cup for the second time in a row. In 2019, the USA could not win the tournament in China. Now in 2023, the USA has failed to win the tournament again, despite having a world-class league like the NBA where their players are known to be the best in the world.  

Franz Wagner and Andreas Obst were the stars for Germany in the match. The duo scored 22 and 24 points respectively in the match. The USA team was a team to reckon with. The team has won all the last four Olympic gold medals in the men’s team event. A loss here in the World Cup will raise a lot of questions about the American Basketball.
