WTC 2021-23

‘Sapne dekhna achi baat hai’ – Fans react as Sourav Ganguly says India can chase 360-370 runs in fourth innings of WTC Final

Australian closed out Day 3 at the score of 123/4 in their second innings in WTC 2021-23 final

On Day 3 of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 Final, Australia dramatically increased their grip on the match after an atypical session ended in India’s benefit. India scored 296 from a score of 151/5 overnight before being dismissed by the lethal Australian pacers. Ajinkya Rahane scored a valiant 89 off 129 balls, but Shardul Thakur and Ravindra Jadeja both scored 51 and 48, which were all crucial contributions.

The Australian team’s captain Pat Cummins had the best bowling statistics with 3/83 in 20 overs. While Mitchell Starc, Scott Boland, and Cameron Green each returned with two wickets, Nathan Lyon only had one. Australia’s team bowling effort allowed them to enter the second innings with a 173-run lead.

As such, former India batter Sourav Ganguly said that India will still have a chance if they are given a target of 360-370 to chase in the final innings of the match. “If India has to chase 360 or 370, then India will be in the game. They have Virat Kohli, the best Chaser in the world & many class players as well. So, anything can happen in the last two days,” Sourav Ganguly said to Star Sports.

The lead for Australia is 296 runs at stumps, Day 3

Early in the Australian innings, David Warner edged an outswinger from Mohammed Siraj and India, allowing KS Bharat to quickly grab a low catch. After tea, Umesh Yadav directed Usman Khawaja, the other Australian opener, to the pavilion.

After the two openers were taken out of the game, Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne continued to work together effectively. On Day 3, after Australia’s third wicket fell, Smith struggled against Ravindra Jadeja. With the wicket of Travis Head, Jadeja maintained his slaughter and removed both first-inning centurion batsmen.

After Day 3, Australia’s lead had grown to 296 runs from 123/4. Ravindra Jadeja is at the head of the Indian bowling order with 2/25 in 9 overs. While Mohammed Siraj and Umesh Yadav have claimed one wicket, Mohammed Shami and Shardul Thakur have yet to add any to their second-inning totals.
