India and Bangladesh faced off in the second Test that kicked off on December 22 and it was the Indian team who came out on top on Day 4 chasing a target of 145 on the back of heroics from Ravichandran Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer after India were restricted to 74/7 on the back of a five-for from Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Ashwin, who is known for his cricketing knowledge, his spin and his YouTube videos, opened up on the win on his channel and revealed an interesting conversation with Mehidy, at the end of Day 3, when India were struggling to make a comeback into the game.

Saying that he asked the Bangladeshi off-spinner about the Kookaburra ball turning soft after 35 overs, Ashwin claimed that it was a strange situation for him and was not sure about the same. Mehidy, who clarified the issue, said that there were too many duplicate balls being produced and regretted the unfortunate situation of the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

Ashwin further said that the security personnel who usually receives them in Chennai was quite embarrassed by the hard-fighting win as he expected it to be a cakewalk for India. The Indian spinner highlighted the emergence of Bangladeshi players at the international level and said that they were no more underdogs.

“I spoke with Mehidy Hasan about how the condition of the ball completely changes after the 35th over,” Ashwin said in the video about the conversation with the Bangladeshi off-break bowler, with Mehidy replying, “Yes, we are getting a few duplicate balls here, bro. Please do the needful from your end.”

“The security who usually receives me at the airport said ‘sir, it would have been humiliating had we lost. Thanks for saving us,” said India’s ace spinner further. The Indian team have a hectic home schedule against Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Australia with the Border-Gavaskar trophy set to take place in March 2023. Given that the team tasted too many defeats in 2022, they would look to turn things around in the approaching year.
