Pakistan’s loss to Zimbabwe has derailed their 20-20 World Cup campaign. The Men in Green remain at the mercy of other teams and the weather for a semi-final qualification even after they win all of their remaining games.
The Babar Azam-led side however want to make sure they do whatever they can to keep their hopes alive. With the same intention, Pakistan went against South Africa in their Super 12 match against South Africa on Thursday, October 3rd.
Shaheen Afridi who is an important cog in the Pakistan team was also at his best against South Africa. The left-arm pacer has failed to recreate his past magic in this year’s 20-20 World Cup. He was however sensational against South Africa as he came up with a bowling figure of 2-2-2. Afridi began Pakistan’s bowling innings by getting Quinton de Kock out for a duck in the first over itself giving a huge respite to the Pakistan team.
The 22-year-old did not just stop there. In his second over he dismissed the inform batter Rilee Rossouw to bring in another success for the Men in Green. With two quick wickets, the left-arm pacer all but ended South Africa’s top order.
South Africa are currently lingering at 69/4 in 9 overs after rain forced the game to be stopped. Pakistan look on course for another victory after making 185/9 in 20 overs. Iftikhar Ahmed, Pakistan’s middle-order batter was the hero of the first innings as he made 51 off 35 to take Pakistan to a good total. All-rounder Shadab Khan also lent a helping hand and made 52 off 22 to lay a great foundation for the bowlers.
