Riyan Parag is one of the most consistent performers in domestic cricket from the plate group teams over the years. The batter from Assam has been very good in the last couple of seasons for Assam in various tournaments. There are a lot of people who genuinely want the youngster to succeed, as there are not many cricketers who have made it big in international cricket from the region.

The 21-year-old has good stats in domestic cricket. For Assam, Parag has scored 1420 runs in 25 matches in first-class cricket at an average of 32.3. In List A, the Guwahati-born cricketer has even better numbers. In 47 matches for the northeastern team, Parag has scored 1593 runs at an average of 40.8, and a strike rate of 100.6.

Parag is a lower middle-order batter who can score runs quickly once settled. The right-handed batter has a decent range of shots. Aggression is the key to Parag’s success. The right-arm leg-spinner is also a handy bowler. Parag can pick wickets at crucial junctures, which makes him an asset in the team. Unfortunately, barring his domestic team, Parag has not been able to convert his form to other teams.

Failures in the Indian Premier League

In the Indian Premier League, Parag had a good start to his career. In IPL 2019, Parag scored 160 runs in 5 innings at an average of 32.00, at a strike rate of 126.98, including a fifty. Since then, nothing has gone in the favour of Parag. In 2020, Parag scored 86 runs in 8 innings at an average of 12.29, at a strike rate of 111.69. In 2021, Parag averaged 11.63 in 10 innings.

In 2022, Parag did not have a better season, as he scored 183 runs in 14 innings at an average of 16.64. In 2023, Parag scored only 78 runs in 7 innings at an average of 13.00. Speaking about his IPL career, Parag told “People from Assam haven’t played at the IPL level, I’m going to play a lot more. I don’t take anything for granted, I’ve the craziest work ethic. All that goes unnoticed because I don’t brag about it on social media”.
