The Indian cricket community is inconsolable about the possibility that this would be MS Dhoni’s final season playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), quite possibly, may not return to the T20 competition at all. Sunil Gavaskar ran to Dhoni and grabbed an autograph over his shirt as millions of fans felt their heartbeats quicken as they watched him deliver the lap of honour for the Chepauk crowd following the game versus Kolkata Knight Riders. The primary Little Master has now expressed a sentimental yearning regarding the legendary MSD.

Gavaskar provided an explanation for his decision to obtain Dhoni’s autograph in a video posted by Star Sports. The 1983 World Cup champion expressed a hope for his “final moments” that included MS Dhoni as well.

Sunil Gavaskar talks about the special memory that he created at the Chepauk stadium. He said, “I decided to create a special memory When I got to know about MS Dhoni’s lap of honour. That’s why I ran towards MSD to take his autograph. It was his last home game at Chepauk. Of course, he will get a chance to play here if CSK qualifies for the playoffs. But I decided to make that moment special. I was fortunate enough that someone in the camera unit had a marker pen. So, I am thankful to that person as well.”

Gavaskar then explained why he asked MS Dhoni for his autograph. He said, “So, I went to Mahi and requested him to sign an autograph on the shirt that I was wearing. It was so nice of him to acknowledge it. It was a very emotional moment for me because this fellow has made immense contributions to Indian Cricket.”

Gavskar stated that two of the last things he would like to see are MS Dhoni striking his bat after scoring the championship-winning six versus Sri Lanka in 2011 and Kapil Dev hoisting the 1983 World Cup. He said, “Kapil Dev lifting the 1983 WC Trophy and MS Dhoni hitting that winning six in the 2011 WC final are the two cricketing moments I would love to see before I die.”
