Lucknow Super Giants have traded Romario Shepherd to Mumbai Indians for the IPL 2024. The five-time champions have got the West Indian All-rounder based on the cash deal with Lucknow. The deal has received mixed opinions from the fans. While some feel that it could be a good trade, others feel that Mumbai might have gone with a not-so-good player despite plenty of options available.

In the 2023 IPL, Mumbai Indians lacked an All-rounder down the order. While Cameron Green did a good job as a batting All-rounder, Mumbai probably lacked a bowling All-rounder. From the local talents, Mumbai did not get as much as they would have liked. Hence, Mumbai probably got Shepherd in the trade from Lucknow. It might provide them with a good balance in the upcoming season of the IPL.

In the IPL 2023, Shepherd played just a game for Lucknow. In the match, Shepherd did not get to bat or bowl. He did not get a chance in the season again, as Lucknow was occupied with 4 foreigners in Nicholas Pooran. Marcus Stoinis, Naveen-ul-Haq/Mark Wood, and Kyle Mayers. Hence, Lucknow decided to trade off Shepherd to other teams. Mumbai purchased Shepherd through a cash deal.

A good form of Shepherd in Caribbean Premier League 2023

Shepherd helped Guyana Amazon Warriors to win their maiden title in the CPL in September. Ahead of the SA20 auction, Shepherd was picked by Johannesburg Super Kings through direct signings. With the ball, Shepherd can bowl a couple of overs. With the bat, Shepherd can hit some big blows down the order. As a package, Shepherd can prove to be good, when backed well.

In 31 T20 internationals, Shepherd has a good strike rate of 153.57. For the 2024 season of the IPL, teams were asked to finalize their players before the 15th of November. But with the ODI World Cup 2023 happening, the dates might be extended. The auction of the 2024 season of the IPL is set to take place in Dubai on the 19th of December. For the first time, the auction of an IPL season will be held outside India.
