On the final league stage match day of the sixteenth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), two blockbusters were scheduled. At Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Mumbai Indians took on Sunrisers Hyderabad, who had already been eliminated, in the first game. Later on in the day, an exciting second game would be played between the defending champion Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

In reference to the opening match, the Mumbai Indians skipper made the decision to bowl first after winning the toss. It seemed to be a poor decision as the SRH openers pummelling Mumbai bowlers all over the park at the start of play. Vivrant Sharma (69 off 47) and Mayank Agarwal (83 off 46) combined for a large opening partnership of 140 runs. Eight boundaries and four maximums were recorded by Agarwal during his dominant performance. The team’s skipper Aiden Markram scored 13 off 7 runs, and Heinrich Klaasen scored 18 off 13 to help the total reach 200/5 in 20 overs.

Cameron Green scored a century to lead MI to a 8-wicket win

At one point in the innings, they seemed to be more than on track for a significantly bigger total. Therefore, MI’s bowlers deserve praise for sustaining run-flow. Akash Madhwal, who concluded with a 4/37 in his four over, was still the best bowler. The other Sunrisers wicket that was lost was picked up by Chris Jordan.

In reply, MI lost Ishan Kishan cheaply but recovered to score 60 runs in the powerplay, thanks to Cameron Green. Green along with Rohit Sharma (56 off 37) added 128 runs for the second wicket partnership taking the team total to 148/2 from 20/1. Finally Green (100* off 47) and Suryakumar Yadav (25 off 16) drove MI past the finish line by 8 wickets with 12 balls to spare. For SRH, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mayank Dagar returned with a wicket each.

On Tuesday, May 23, the Indian Premier League’s sixteenth season’s playoff rounds will begin. Notably, the Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants are the three teams who have already qualified for the IPL 2023 Playoffs. For the last berth, Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians, and Royal Challengers Bangalore are competing. While the Royals have finished their game schedule, the fate of the final Playoff qualifier will depend on the results of the games for MI and RCB.
