The 10th match of the Women’s T20 League took place at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Mumbai clashed swords against UP in a highly anticipated encounter. UP called the coin right and elected to bat first. The start was not the best for them as Devika Vaidya fell to Saika Ishaque for 6 off 5 balls with one four.
Kiran Navgire made a quick-fire 17 off 14 balls with two fours and one six. She was dismissed by Amelia Kerr. At 58-2, UP took charge and came back into the game. Skipper Alyssa Healy made 58 off 46 balls with seven fours and one six. She was ably assisted by Tahlia McGrath, who scored 50 off 37 balls with 9 fours. Ishaque claimed both the Australians.
Mumbai launched a comeback when they dismissed Healy at 140. McGrath followed her into the dugout, soon after. Then Mumbai did not offer any breathing room to UP as Sophie Eccelstone and Deepti Sharma were scalped cheaply by Hayley Matthews and Kerr respectively. In the end, UP got to a competitive total of 159-6 in their 20 overs.
Mumbai were very good with the ball and did not allow UP to have a grandstand finish. In the second innings, Yastika Bhatia got her side off to the perfect start. The wicket-keeper batter scored a blistering 42 off 27 balls with eight fours and one six. She was dismissed by Rajeshwari Gayakwad. Matthews scored a sedate 12 off 17 balls with two fours before she got out to Eccelstone.
After a brief lull in proceedings, Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat -Sciver Brunt steadied the innings for Mumbai. Kaur scored 53 off 32 balls with nine fours and one six. Brunt scored 45 off 31 balls with six fours and one six. Kaur took McGrath apart by hitting her for 19 runs in her first over.
Mumbai won the match by 8 wickets. This is Mumbai’s fourth victory in the Women’s T20 League and they still stay on top of the points table.
