The Women’s T20 League got off to a great start as the Mumbai franchise beat the Gujarat franchise by a big margin of 143 runs. Gujarat won the toss and chose to bowl firat. At the DY Patil Stadium where there were good batting conditions on offer, Mumbai started well. They had an early blow as they lost Yastika Bhatia but did not look back from there.

After Mumbai’s quick fire start, courtesy of Hayley Mathews and Nat Sciver Brunt, it was up to Harmanpreet Kaur to continue the good work. She did not disappoint. The women from Moga scored a blistering 65 off 30 balls with 14 fours. After the match, Jemimah Rodrigues gave a special mention to Kaur in a tweet.

Kaur came to the wicket after the fall of Mathews at 77-3. She played with the Gujarat bowlers and hit the ball to all parts. Kaur was good on the on side and the offside with her strokes and it was effortless batting with ease.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s innings helped Mumbai to get to 207-5 in their 20 overs

Her innings helped the Mumbai side get to 207-5 in 20 overs. Kaur combined well with New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr, who scored 45 off 24 balls with six fours and one six. The batters from Mumbai put on a wonderful team effort to help their side get to a big score.

In the second innings, she led well as the skipper of the side. Mumbai dismissed Gujarat for a mere 64 runs in the second innings. The pick of the bowlers for the Paltan was Saika Ishaque, who picked up 4-11 in 3.1 overs. The left-arm spinner broke the back of Gujarat’s batting.

Kaur was coming off a slight fever from the Women’s 20-20 World Cup in South Africa before the Women’s T20 League. The fever put Kaur’s participation in the semi-final against Australia in doubt but she ended up playing a game-changing knock. The Indian captain was run out at a crucial juncture which cost India the match.
