The 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup indelibly inscribed its name in the chronicles of sporting grandeur, a spectacle of captivating drama and cricketing mastery. At the heart of this epic saga stood the Indian cricket team, a force that enthralled the nation with its pursuit of glory.

India’s campaign commenced with a resounding victory over Australia, establishing the precedent for what was to unfold. The Men in Blue traversed the group stage with unwavering dominance, dismantling each opponent with surgical precision. Their batting was a spectacle of harmonized power and grace, while their bowling was simply unbelievable. However, in a heartbreaking turn of events, India conceded defeat to Australia in the World Cup Final, surrendering to a rather lopsided match.

Australia, led by the astute Pat Cummins, won the toss and opted to field first. The decision proved pivotal one in hindsight. India could only manage a total of 239 despite a quickfire start courtesy Rohit Sharma. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul scored half-centuries too but their failure to carry on, couple with the rest of the batters failures led India to the under-par score. Defending a modest target of 241, India started extremely well, picking up three early wickets before a 192-run stand between Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne took the game away from them. Australia eventually won the game by 6 wickets with Travis Head being adjudged the player-of-the-match for his outstanding century.

Mohammed Shami voices disapproval to Mitchell Marsh’s viral photo

In the aftermath of Australia’s victory in the Final, a photo went viral of all-rounder Mitchell Marsh sitting on a couch with his feet resting on the trophy. This sparked a heated debate on social media, with several people criticizing Marsh for disrespecting the trophy. The photo which was clicked in the team’s dressing room, was originally shared by Australian captain Pat Cummins on his Instagram story.

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has now voiced his disapproval of the gesture during an interaction with reporters. “I am hurt. The trophy for which all the teams in the world fights, the trophy which you want to lift over your head, keeping a foot on that trophy did not make me happy,” Mohammed Shami said.

Mitchell Marsh hasn’t issued an apology in this regard, at least for now.
