India did not fare well in the 3rd Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy as they had to defend a low score of 75 they lost by nine wickets to give Australia their first win in the series. India did not do well with the bat in both innings of the Indore Test as they collapsed for 109 and 163. The Indian batters could not get out of the web spun by Nathan Lyon, Matt Kuhemann and Todd Murphy.

India took a 2-0 series lead before coming into the Indore Test thanks to a win in Nagpur by an innings and 132 runs and another win in Delhi by 6 wickets. Meanwhile, Mark Waugh talked about how India did not turn up for the Indore Test and played well within their potential. He said India were too vain and ahead of themselves as they thought that they would get a favourable result.

India have a lot of thinking to do now – Mark Waugh

“I think India took their foot off the pedal. I think they became complacent. Once they won the toss, they thought it would just happen for them. They did not get their right balance between attack and defence. Few of their batters threw their wickets away by over-attacking shots. With the ball, in the first innings, they were where near accurate as they can be. They bowled a lot of half-volleys. I think India have a lot of thinking to do now. They got to bounce back because they were way below their best in the game,” Mark Waugh said.

India did not have the best of times with the bat, they did not apply themselves enough on a turning track and were found wanting. Nathan Lyon was the hero of the match as he picked up 11 wickets in the match and turned the game for Australia. The Green caps were also much better with the bat than India. With the win in Indore, Australia have qualified for the final of the Test Championship.

India needs to pull their socks up and play better cricket in the upcoming Test in Ahmedabad. India have won the previous three editions of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Australia will be playing their first Test Championship final in England. The Australians will also have experience in England because they have played many Ashes games there.
