New Zealand rode on Devon Conway’s sparkling unbeaten 92 which came off only 58 balls and allowed the Kiwis to get to a massive total of 200-3 in their 20 overs. Then in the second innings, Mitchell Santner picked up a three-wicket haul to put Australia on the mat and give an 89-run win.
Australia and New Zealand locked horns against each other in the first match of the 20-20 World Cup 2022. Australia won the toss and opted to bowl first. The match was played at the Sydney Cricket Ground. New Zealand got off to a wonderful start with Finn Allen tearing the Australian attack to pieces.
The right-hander played a whirlwind knock of 42 from 16 balls with five fours and three sixes. Devon Conway was in his element as he scored a wonderful 92 off 58 balls with seven fours and two sixes.
The skipper Kane Willamson looked good in his run-a-ball knock of 23 off 23 balls with one four and one maximum. They had a wonderful finish at the end from Glenn Philips and James Neesham who scored 12 off 10 balls with two fours and 26 off 13 balls with two sixes to propel New Zealand to 200-3 in their 20 overs.
In the second innings, Australia got off to the worst possible start with David Warner departing for just 5 to Tim Southee. Right from the word go the New Zealand bowlers picked up wickets at regular intervals to ensure Australia don’t break free.
Mitchell Santner led the way with the ball with a 3-wicket haul in his four overs. Tim Southee also picked up 3 wickets for just 6 runs in his 2.1 overs. Trent Boult also hit the right notes as he picked up 2-24 from his four-over spell. Lockie Ferguson and Ish Sodhi also picked up a wicket each. This gave New Zealand a fantastic start in the tournament and also gave New Zealand a big win over their Trans-Tasman rivals.
They recorded their biggest win ever in a 20-20 World Cup against Australia and won a match on Australian soil after ten years.

Australia could win every remaining match now and be knocked out.
If ENG beats NZ. AUS beats ENG. And both ENG and NZ defeat other teams as expected.
AUS, NZ, ENG end up on 4 wins.
Poor AUS net run rate leaves us behind.#T20worldcup22 #AUSvsNZ
