India and Australia locked horns in the third Test at Indore. The pitch at Indore was looked at one which was to be a rank turner and was a red soil pitch which meant the pitch had a lot of bounce on offer. India won the toss and chose to bat. India came into the third Test with a 2-1 lead courtesy an innings and 123 run win at Nagpur and a six wicket win at Delhi.

In the first innings, India produced a poor batting performance as India crashed to 109-10 in the first innings. The top six got starts but failed to convert their starts into big scores. The Indian batters had no answers to the spin trio of Nathan Lyon, Mathew Kuhemann and Todd Murphy. Kuhemann picked up 5 for 16 in his 9 over spell. Nathan Lyon also picked up 3-35 in his spell of 11.2 overs.

Nathan Lyon took 8-64 in the second innings to derail India

Australia batted much better than India in the first innings as they scored 197-10. Usman Khawaja made 60 off147 balls with four fours and was Australia’s best batter in the first innings. Australia looked set to make a bigger score but Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin and Umesh Yadav brought India back in the game as Australia lost their last six wickets for a mere addition of 12 runs.

For India, in the second innings, barring Cheteshwar Pujara who made a fine 59 off 142 balls with five fours and one six. Lyon broke the back of the Indian batting lineup in the second innings as he picked up 8-64 in his 23.3 over spell. India capitulated to 163 in the second innings.

This meant that Australia had to chase a small score of 76 in the second innings to win the Test match. Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne made light work of the target as Head scored 49 off 53 balls with six fours and one six and Labuschagne scored 28 off 58 balls with six fours. Australia have come back into the four match Test series 2-1. Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter-
