Two-time Indian T20 League winner, Kolkata has appointed Chandrakant Pandit as the new head coach of the team. The former India player has guided a few state teams to Ranji Trophy victories. He will be replacing Brendon McCullum, who became the head coach of the England Test team during the Indian T20 League 2022.
Now with McCullum taking the England job, it won’t be possible for him to take care of the franchise team. This is the reason Pandit has been appointed as the head coach of the Purple Brigade for the 2023 season. Meanwhile, the team’s CEO Venky Mysore has said that the team is excited to have the renowned coach in the team. Mysore also pointed out that Pandit has a great record while coaching in Indian domestic cricket.
“We are very excited that Chandu is joining the Knight Riders family to lead us through the next phase of our journey. His deep commitment to what he does and his track record of success in domestic cricket is there for everyone to see. We are looking forward to his partnership with our skipper Shreyas Iyer, which promises to be an exciting one.” Venky Mysore said in an official statement to the franchise website.
On the other hand, Mumbaikar has said that it is an honor and privilege for him to work with the team. He praised the team culture and the players associated with the team.
“It’s a great honour and privilege to be given this responsibility. I have heard from players and others who have been associated with the Knight Riders, about the family culture, as well as the tradition of success that has been created. I am excited about the quality of the support staff and the players who are part of the setup and I am looking forward to this opportunity with all humility and positive expectations.” Chandrakant Pandit said.
