In the 55th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) beat Delhi Capitals (DC) by 27 runs. CSK outplayed DC in every aspect of the game and go a step closer to qualifying for the Playoffs. Batting first, they posted a hefty total of 167/8 in 20 overs while restricting the opposition to 140/8. Meanwhile, a concern mounts over the fitness of CSK skipper MS Dhoni.

Dhoni who is having a great time in the league is struggling with a knee injury. His injury has restricted him to run slowly between the wickets. Pointing this out Former India allrounder Irfan Pathan also expressed his concern over it. In a recent social media post Pathan said, “Seeing Dhoni limping thru running between the wickets breaks my heart. Have seen him run like a cheetah.”

After that Pathan met Dhoni and shared the pictures of his meeting. Both can be seen as having a great bond. Pathan also said, “Jaha se chorte hai wahi se fir se shuru hoti hai Hamari Dosti. Never been a time when we met and didn’t remember our good old days. Some funny memories come back to life every time we meet. @msdhoni @ChennaiIPL #leader #friend.” Notably, Pathan has been a part of CSK and the Indian team for a long time and has played under the leadership of MS Dhoni.

MS Dhoni is training for the last three overs

After the game CSK coach Stephen Fleming also pointed out Dhoni’s fitness. He also said that Dhoni is training in a certain way to target the last three overs. Fleming also pointed out that Dhoni’s cameos are really important for CSK. “He’s just training a certain way, he knows he’s not going bat for a long time. He concentrated more on the last three overs. He’s not as mobile between the wickets although today he pushed hard. So, he’s concentrated on really strong hitting practice,” said Fleming, speaking at the post-match press conference.

“You can see the benefits of that. He is just very comfortable being able to play around the ground. We know how good a hitter he is and his access in certain areas is still very strong. That cameo again at the end was valuable in a hard-fought 20 overs,” he further added. Notably, the 41-year-old wicketkeeper-batter has scored 96 runs in eight innings with a strike rate of more than 200.
