The 2023 World Cup will take place in India. The games will be held in 10 venues in the country. India will be hosting the World Cup for the fourth time. This time the country will be the sole host. When it comes to the umpires who will officiate the games, the Cricket Governing Body has recently made the names public. Nitin Menon and Kumar Dharmansena will conduct proceedings in the opening World Cup game between England and New Zealand.

Paul Wilson and Saikat will be the TV umpire and the fourth umpire respectively in the tournament opener to be played in Ahmedabad. Sixteen umpires will officiate the 13th edition of the tournament, including all 12 of the Emirates Elite Panel of Umpires. Joining them will be four more who will be from the emerging umpiring panel. The panel includes the likes of  Rod Tucker, Dharmasena and Marais Erasmus. Aleem Dhar recently went away from the Elite panel. The umpires have already been named for the league segment. But for the semi-finals and finals, the call will be taken on a later date.

We are delighted with the umpiring group for the 2023 World Cup – Wasim Khan

“To deliver an event of this magnitude you require high-performing individuals at every level. Wasim Khan general manager of the Cricket Governing Body said. The Elite panel of umpires, referees, and emerging group of umpires involved will bring immense skills, experience and world-class standards to this World Cup. We are delighted with the group that we have assembled for this tournament”. Wasim added.

The World Cup will be played in the round-robin format which is the same way as it was conducted in 2019. The Men in Blue will want to give their best for their passionate supporters and also under home conditions. History might come calling for Rohit Sharma’s men as it did for MS Dhoni’s devils in 2011. The tournament would be a hard-fought one as most of the teams have some experience of Indian conditions. The 2023 World Cup will be Rohit’s biggest Test so far.
