Ravichandran Ashwin backs his IPL teammate amidst criticism
Riyan Parag has been scoring a lot of runs at domestic cricket.

Ravichandran Ashwin has opened up on the criticism Riyan Parag has been getting of late. The Indian spinner stood up for his RR teammate and claimed that it is unfair to criticize a player like Parag who is very young. Taking to his YouTube channel, Ashwin claimed that Parag is unnecessarily criticized as an overhyped cricketer. He added that one must not judge a player based on IPL performance.
“Riyan Parag is frequently criticized as an overhyped cricketer after just seeing his IPL performances,” said Ashwin. The TN cricketer added that Parag has been scoring runs for fun at the domestic level for Assam and felt that people forget his age before passing on the opinions. Ashwin analyzed how good the youngster has been in domestic cricket in the ongoing season and gave examples for the same.

“We sometimes forget that he’s a youngster. This season, he had a great SMAT, a great Vijay Hazare, and he hit 155 for Assam vs. Chhattisgarh, the first match of the Ranji season,” added the Indian spinner. Ashwin felt that Parag has been batting very well in the ongoing Ranji Trophy and described his knock against Chhattisgarh.

Ashwin felt that Parag batted aggressively in the match not just for the sake of doing. He added that Parag did what was necessary in the required situation. The star spinner added that the batter sitting on the other end did not do any good deal which meant that the Rajasthan Royals batter had to lead a counterattack with the bat all by himself.
“He scored 155 of 87 balls. He didn’t play for the sake of playing like a T20 cricketer. He was pushed into that situation. All the batters on the other end fell like flies, and he took charge of his own hands and played such a knock,” added Ashwin in his statement. The two are set to play for RR again in the IPL 2024. Come the summer of 2024, the two would join each other and play some games together.
