WTC 2021-23

‘Arrey firse injure ho jayega’ – Fans react as Dinesh Karthik says Jasprit Bumrah could be back for T20I series against Ireland while commentating in WTC final

Dinesh Karthik is currently engaged with the commentary team of the WTC 2021-23 final.

Most likely, the three-match T20I series against Ireland in late August will mark Jasprit Bumrah’s return to international cricket. Bumrah is the top pacer for Team India. Dinesh Karthik, a wicketkeeper-batsman, discussed this while providing commentary for the World Test Championship Final at the Kennington Oval.

Before the Asia Cup 2023, the series will be played in late August. Bumrah’s series against Ireland will be important since it will give him a chance to regain his form before the all-important Men’s ODI World Cup 2023, which will be entirely hosted by India later this year.

Jasprit Bumrah underwent a successful back operation in New Zealand in March, and since April has been receiving rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). The top pacer would have returned to competitive cricket in January 2022, but instead played in the 20-20 World Cup.

He was even included in the Indian ODI team for the January series against Sri Lanka. However, he was barred from participating before the series began. Along with the IPL 2023, Bumrah also missed the Boundary Gavaskar Trophy and the ODI series against Australia. Even the World Test Championship team couldn’t include him.

Australia’s lead is at 374 runs at Lunch, Day 4

Talking of the World Test Championship, Australia have taken a complete upper hand on the match with a lead of 374 runs at Lunch, Day 4. The second innings score stands at 201/6. Previously, Australia scored 469 batting first, riding on centuries from Steve Smith and Travis Head. In reply, India were bundled out for 296 with Ajinkya Rahane being the standout batter who fell short of his century by 11 runs. Shardul Thakur and Ravindra Jadeja were key contributors with contributions of 51 and 48, respectively.

India have an uphill task in front of them with the Aussies still having four wickets in hand. Australia could further increase the fourth innings target by extending their lead further. Historically, India has only once chased a target of over 400 in the fourth innings of any test match. It is right to say that Australia have a hand and a half on the Test Mace already.
