India and England are currently battling it out in Match 29 of the Cricket World Cup at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. After winning the toss, England captain Jos Buttler chose to bowl first, with his team in dire need of a victory to stay in the hunt for a semi-final spot. The bowlers have justified Buttler’s decision, taking three wickets in the first 12 overs.

Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer were all dismissed by Chris Woakes and David Willey in an outstanding opening burst. The pitch, offering significant assistance, allowed the bowlers to excel. Woakes dismissed Gill with a beautiful full delivery that nipped back and struck the stumps, exploiting the substantial gap between the young batter’s bat and pad. Kohli failed to execute a lofted shot off Willey and had to head back to the pavilion. As for Iyer, his attempt to play a pull shot resulted in him getting caught.

India will now rely on skipper Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja to take the side to a competitive total. At the moment, Rohit and Rahul are consolidating the innings, and Rohit is taking a few risks here and there to apply pressure on England.

Indian Team wears black armbands

Members of the Indian side are wearing black armbands during the game as a mark of respect for the late Bishan Singh Bedi, who passed away on 23 October. Bedi, who made his debut way back in 1966, represented India in 67 Tests and 10 ODIs, picking up 273 wickets in the process. Many consider Bedi one of the greatest spinners of all time, and they widely regard him as one of the greatest Indian cricketers.

He was part of India’s famous quartet of spinners which also included Erapalli Prasanna, Bhagwat Chandrasekhar, and Srinivas Venkataraghavan. They formed the backbone of India’s bowling attack for over a decade, from 1966 to 1978.
