India vs Australia 2023

‘Kaif se accha kaun jaane catches kisko bolte hai’ – Fans react as former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif warns team India ahead of ODI World Cup 2023

During the first ODI, the hosts dropped two easy catches, including one by Shreyas Iyer.

In order to prepare for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, India is facing Australia in a three-match ODI series. In the first game of the series, India opted to bowl first after winning the toss. Despite bowling well in the game, a concern has struck team management.

The on-field chaos and lack of confidence while fielding have been troubling the Indian team. During the first ODI, the hosts dropped two easy catches, including one by Shreyas Iyer. On the other hand, wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul also had sloppy hands as he missed so many close chances. However, he was lucky to get two wickets after fumbling to collect the ball behind the wickets.

Raising the same point, former India cricketer and one of the finest fielders of his time, Mohammad Kaif, warned Indian team management. He said that bowling and batting help win matches, and so far, India is lagging behind in them. “Caution: India may drop the World Cup if they don’t catch well. Batting and bowling can win matches, but so can catching,”, Kaif tweets.

“We need to improve”: India skipper Rohit Sharma said on catch drops

It is worth noting that in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2023, India had a poor outing in the field. Despite winning the tournament with a resounding victory against Sri Lanka in the finals, Indian fielders failed to grab easy catches during the tournament. Starting with the group game against Nepal, India dropped almost 10 catches in the tournament.

In the game against Nepal star India, fielders like Ishan Kishan, Virat Kohli, and others dropped three catches within the first five overs. However, after the game, India skipper Rohit Sharma admitted the need for catching practice in the team. Team management will need to keep track of it as it might cost India at the biggest stage.
