India faced off against Bangladesh in the second Test that kicked off on December 22, Thursday and Mehidy Hasan, the right-arm off-break bowler, turned things around for the Bangla Tigers on Day 3 and Day 4. To add more, India were set a target of 145 post-crushing Bangladesh for 231 in the second innings.

For the unversed, Mehidy managed to remove the likes of Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli towards the end of Day 3, rattling the Indian top order during their second innings. The KL Rahul-led team were left with no hope and much to the dreariness of the Indian fans, Mehidy continued on with his form on Day 4 as well.

To add more to Day 4, the spinner managed to remove the likes of Axar Patel and Jaydev Unadkat for 34 and 13 runs respectively, eventually picking up a five-for to his name. While Kohli contributed only 1 run to India’s scoreboard, Pujara and Gill made their way back to the dressing room for just 6 and 7 runs respectively.

Could India pull off unimaginable win after Mehidy Hasan’s wrath?

As things stand, India were reduced to 74/7 in no time, courtesy of Mehidy’s five-for. However, Shreyas Iyer and Ravichandran Ashwin joined hands in the middle and with the session inching closer towards the lunch break, India were reeling at 121/7, with Ashwin unbeaten at 20 and Iyer at 27.

Post the conclusion of Day 3, the spinner opened up on a possibility of a victory and said that the Bangla Tigers will do all they can to bowl out the Indian team early on Day 4. Saying that they tried to be positive, Mehidy said that they had all chances of winning the match if they remove India’s star batters early on Sunday.

“We just tried to be positive, the wicket was turning, so we had to bowl well against them, they have some really good batters. If we get two early wickets in the morning, we can go for the win. That was an excellent ball (against Kohli), I tried to bowl into the rough. Got some turn on that ball,” Mehidy was quoted as saying at the end of the day’s play on Saturday.

As things stand, let us take a look at a few Twitter reactions to Mehidy’s stupendous spell:
