India had a bad end to their last ODI series before the Indian T20 League 2023. The team lost to Australia by 21 runs in the third ODI. The Kangaroos took the series 2-1. India’s batting performance was below par right through the series. Batters got starts but they were not able to convert them into a big total. Suryakumar Yadav, in particular, had a very bad series.

The Mumbai batter registered three consecutive ducks in the series. In the first two games, he got out to Mitchell Starc in an identical manner. In the last game, he was bowled by Ashton Agar to cap off the series. This is unlike Yadav whom India has seen in T20I cricket where he has put the bowlers to the sword. India head coach, Rahul Dravid had said in various interviews that Suryakumar is still learning the ODI game.

I don’t know how to look into it  – Rohit on Suryakumar’s performance against Australia

“Surya played only 3 balls in this series, I don’t know how to look into it, he plays spin well, we have seen that in the last few years, these kind of series happen to anyone – potential & ability is there but going through that phase of career”. Rohit Sharma talked about Suryakumar Yadav after the third ODI against Australia in the post-match press conference. The right-handed batter is relatively new to ODI cricket. Suryakumar has played 23 matches and scored 433 runs at an average of 24.05 and at a strike rate of 102.12. He has scored two half-centuries.

Fans have now targeted Rohit after this statement by saying that there is a lot of favoritism in the team. They said that there are different standards for different players. Fans pointed out that if Sanju Samson would have received the same backing, he would have gone places and cemented his spot in the limited-overs sides. Samson has scored 330 runs in the last 11 matches at an average of 66. He has a strike rate of 104.76. The man from Kerala has also scored two half-centuries in ODIs.

The Rohit Sharma-led side got out of jail in the first encounter in Mumbai and won by five wickets. The Kangaroos bulldozed the home team by 10 wickets at Vizag. In Chennai, the Australians bossed the game as Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar spun Australia to victory. India players will play in the Indian T20 League 2023.
