The Indian Cricket Board also put out a team that will be on its way to the Asian Games which will be held in China Hangzhou, Ruturaj Gaikwad was named as captain of the side. This will be the side which is a second string one. The names in the squad include the likes of Rinku Singh and Prabhsimran Singh. Prabhsimran will serve as a wicketkeeping option on the side. Shikhar Dhawan is a notable exclusion from the squad.
Gaikwad had a good Indian Premier League (IPL) season for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), scoring 590 runs in 16 games at an average of 42.14 and a strike rate of 147.50. When it comes to Rinku he amazed one and all with his skills as a finisher for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2023. The 25-year-old made 474 runs at an average of 59.25 and a strike rate of 149.52. He also hit four fifties. His noteworthy moment came against Gujarat Titans (GT) where he hit Yash Dayal for 31 runs in an over off Yash Dayal to help KKR win from an improbable position.
Jitesh Sharma has also made it to the side. Jitesh could serve as a frontline keeping option on the side. Jitesh has also been making the right noises in the IPL by scoring valuable runs in the middle order and also as a finisher for the Punjab Kings. In IPL 2023, the man from Vidharbha made 309 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 156.06. He did not have any half-centuries to show but played quite impactful knocks for his side while batting first and also while chasing.
While the opening slots will be taken by Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rahul Tripathi, Shivam Dube also gets a chance, in the middle order. The Mumbai batter made everyone sit up and take note of his big-hitting exploits. Dube made 418 runs with the highest score of 52. Dube is particularly destructive when it comes to his hitting ability against the spinners.
When it comes to bowling, the responsibilities will be shouldered collectively by Shahbaz Ahmed, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, and Shivam Mavi. There is also the all-around option of Washington Sundar as well. With cricket coming back into the Asian Games after a long hiatus, team India will be looking to put up a good show.
