Former India opener Robin Uthappa has heaped lavish praise on Shubman Gill as the young Indian superstar has had a wonderful IPL 2023. He has scored 576 runs in 13 matches with one century to his name. The right-hander has an average of 48 and a strike rate of 146.19. Uthappa further went on to elucidate that Gill will become the next big thing in Indian cricket. Uthappa also won an Orange Cap in 2014. He said Gill can achieve great things in the future for India.

“I definitely see him having the potential of becoming someone as big as Virat Kohli or Sachin Tendulkar. I certainly think he has got the stuff. He is a phenomenal player who is in exceptional form and is playing some exceptional cricket at the moment,” Uthappa said while doing commentary on Jio Cinema. Gill recently became the youngest Indian to score a double century in ODI cricket. The 23-year-old has a hundred in T20Is as well.

Uthappa then shifted the topic and also talked about Yashasvi Jaiswal. The left-hander has been in sizzling form in IPL 2023. In 13 matches he has amassed 575 runs at an average of 47.91 and at a strike rate of 166.18. He also has four half-centuries and one century. “I feel and believe personally that Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are the two next big things of Indian cricket.” Jaiswal has come up from humble beginnings and has shown that he has what it takes to deliver on the big stage.

Uthappa talked about what the composition of the Indian Team will look like in the 2023 World Cup. He said that the team management will not look to change combinations on the ODI setup and blood youngsters straightaway. The former India cricketer pointed out that there will be a slew of changes that will happen after the 2023 ODI World Cup ends.

“From my experience with the Indian team, I feel they will continue with the experienced players because making wholesale changes this close to the World Cup is not wise. ย Having said that, I feel post the World Cup we might see wholesale changes. He added. India will play the 2023 ODI World Cup on home soil.
