The 2o23 World Cup will be played in India. While many of them are backing the Men in Blue to do well because of home advantage as they did in 2011, the Indian fans are feeling that the Rohit Sharma-led side are not favourites and that they will not make it back to knockouts. But former England captain Eoin Morgan labelled India as a strong contender and he said that the Men in Blue could create history on home turf like how MS Dhoni’s men did.
Morgan won the World Cup for England in 2019 and capped off a wonderful career. He played for Ireland before making the switch and playing for England. With other overseas sides having a lot of Indian Premier League (IPL ) experience and having been to India, this could be a very closely fought World Cup. “When it comes to the business end of the tournament, I have no doubt England will be there, I have no doubt India will be there. And the other teams I would probably see potentially lifting the trophy are Australia and Pakistan, two very very strong teams, and two contenders when it comes to big competitions.” Morgan said in an interview with Wion.
“Home advantage is quite a key thing, but if you were to advise anything you would say engage with the people who were there, and were leaders throughout that journey, and pick their brain. The likes of Virat Kohli played in that team and has first-hand experience of what it is like. It is going to be a hell of a tournament that I am looking forward to,” Morgan added stressing the factor of home advantage. In 2019, England won a thrilling final on home turf against New Zealand on a boundary count.
India scripted history on the 2nd of April in 2011 when MS Dhoni sent the ball soaring high into the skies at long-on to cap off a wonderful World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka in a hard-fought final in front of die-hard Indian fans at the Wankhede in Mumbai. Morgan said if India did in 2011 then they could do the same in 2023 as well.

India are definitely not the favourites. Extremely overrated team and still tryin to figure out who will bat at what number and what combinations to play.
