After the two-Test series against West Indies, India will look to direct all their energies to the three-match ODI series. India won the Test series 1-0 against the Men in Maroon. In the first Test, India mauled West Indies with a big win by an innings and 141 runs. The second Test at Trinidad was washed out due to rain. India were beaten 2-1 when they last played against Australia in ODI’s before the 2023 Indian Premier League.

India will want to iron out any chinks in their armour ahead of the ODI World Cup which will be held on home soil. Ahead of the first ODI against West Indies, the press asked Rohit Sharma whether there were any conversations with Virat Kohli over his form in ODIs. The Indian skipper shut the outside noise with a sharp reply. “I’ve answered this question a lot of times. All the outside talk, who scored how many, took how many wickets… people who say such things don’t know what happens inside. For us, what happens inside stays inside. We prefer that. For us, the most important is to win matches, not who’s talking what. It doesn’t matter to us,”

The West Indies crashed out of the World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe

“Our priority is the three ODI matches right now, we’re focussing on that,” he added. When it comes to the West Indies, they have not had good form on their side in recent times as they crashed out of the ODI World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe. The Men in Maroon lost to Scotland, Zimbabwe and  Netherlands. With Caribbean cricket at an all-time low, they are out to face the Men in Blue. The ODI series will be followed by 5 T20Is which will be played in West Indies and the USA.

Rohit lauded Kohli for his brilliant batting show in the second Test at Trinidad where he scored his 76th international century which was also his 29th in Tests. The Indian skipper said the team needed players like Kohli to guide the Indian side at the post-match presentation in the second Test. He was referring to the mini-collapse that India had in Trinidad.
