The Rajasthan Royals have been handed a big blow. Their premier batter Jos Buttler will be unavailable for a week in the Indian Premier League due to a finger injury. The England batter was the top run scorer for RR in 2022. The right-handed batter had a unbelievable season last year as he scored 863 runs for the side.
He had an average 57.53 and a strike rate of 149.03. The then 31-year-old scored four half-centuries and four centuries last year. He had the highest score of 116. Buttler’s absence will be big blow for RR. This will leave a massive void in the opening slot. RR could get in Devdutt Padikkal to move to the top of the order. This will mean that RR will have two left-handers at the top of the order. They can slot in someone like Dhruv Jurel in the middle order.

Jurel gave a good account of himself in the one innings that he played against Punjab. The youngster scored an eye-catching 32 off 15 balls with three fours and two sixes. Having shown a fair bit of promise, the franchise could look to give him an extended run and hope that Padikkal and Jurel fill in Buttler’s massive shoes. Rajasthan had a great 72 run win over Hyderabad. Then they suffered a gut-wrenching 5 run defeat in the hands of Punjab Kings.
RR has won the inaugural IPL in 2008. They made to the finals of the IPL in 2022. RR have further strengthened their side with the likes of Jason Holder, Adam Zampa and Joe Root. RR have plenty of spin options. They also have the hard-trier Murgan Ashwin in their ranks. Holder could play the finishers role and also give them the extra pace bowling option. RR have one game to go in Guwahati. They will want to end on a high note before they head back to the Sawai Man Singh Stadium at Jaipur.
The Indian Premier League has had a great week. But a lot of players have picked up injuries and there have been a lot of replacements that have flown in. The League has become a level playing field with each team having the capability to defeat any team on their day.
