While many have applauded the decision, the odds are not in the cricketer from Delhi’s favour. Tim Southee may seem like an odd pick, but the international from New Zealand instils calmness in the locker room. He just took over from Kane Williamson as the all-format skipper of New Zealand. In the shortest format, the senior fast bowler has a respectable record as the Blackcaps captain, winning 13 out of 22 games and losing just six. The fact that Southee is calm and has a strong cricketing mind would have made him an excellent fit for Kolkata head coach Chandrakant Pandit, who has a wealth of domestic coaching experience.
