‘Mhari choriya, choro se kam hai ke’ – Twitter in celebration mood as Mumbai win inaugural Women’s T20 League by defeating Delhi in Finals

The Mumbai franchise defeated the Delhi franchise by 7 wickets to win the first-ever Women’s T20 League. Mumbai dominated throughout the season as they won their first five matches consecutively and become the first team to qualify for the top three. After that, Mumbai defeated UP in the eliminator by 72 runs to take on Delhi in the big final.

Before this match, both teams won the one-one game against each other. Mumbai put a full stop to Delhi’s winning streak by winning by 7 wickets when they first met in the season. After that, Delhi thrashed Mumbai by 9 wickets in their second encounter to get to the top of the points table and advance to the finals.

Batting first at the Brabourne stadium, Delhi didn’t had a great start as they lost 3 wickets for 35 runs inside five overs. Skipper Meg Lanning was taking the innings further from one end but she also couldn’t finish the innings for Delhi as she got out after scoring 35 runs off 29 balls scoring five boundaries. Delhi went on to lose 9 wickets for 79 runs in 16 overs. After that, Shikha Pandey and Radha Yadav took the charge for Delhi batting at number eight and number 11 respectively.

Nat Sciver-Brunt’s match-winning innings takes Mumbai down the line

Both batters put up a partnership of 52 runs for the ninth wicket as Delhi posted 131 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. Shikha remained unbeaten on 27 runs off 17 balls, while Radha smashed 27 of just 12 deliveries. For Mumbai, Hayley Matthews and Issy Wong scalped 3-3 wickets each, while Amelia Kerr put 2 in her bag.

Defending a low total, Delhi gave a tough fight to Mumbai by taking 2 wickets for 23 runs inside four overs. After that, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt put up a partnership of 72 runs for the third wicket. Kaur got an unfortunate run out in the 17th over after scoring 37 runs off 39 balls scoring five boundaries. After that Nat Sciver took the and remained unbeaten on 60 runs off 55 balls and finished the game with a boundary as Mumbai chased the winning total losing 3 wickets with three balls to spare to clinch the title in the inaugural season of the Women’s T20 League.
