India locked horns against Australia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi after defeating Australia in the opening game by an inning and 132 runs. The game began on February 17. While batting first, in the last session of Day 1, Men in Blue openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul scored 21 runs in the nine overs they faced.

Indian openers continued their innings on a positive note on Day 2. They both together built up a partnership of 46 runs before Rahul was dismissed after scoring 17. The drought of runs continued for the star India batter. The 30-year-old has scored 23, 22, 2, 10, and 20 runs in the last five Test innings he has played.

Earlier, Australia was bundled out for a score of 263 runs. The highest run scorer for the visitors was Usman Khawaja and Peter Handscomb. Khawaja scored 81 runs, which included 12 boundaries and a six. Handscomb scored unbeaten 72 runs, which included nine boundaries.

India is in deep trouble as the top and middle orders collapsed

For the hosts, the wicket-takers in the first innings were Mohammad Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja. Shami took four wickets, whereas spinners Ashwin and Jadeja grabbed three each. Shami’s figure after the completion of the first innings was 14.4-4-60-4 and on the other side, the spinning duo’s figures were 21-4-57-3 and 21-2-68-3.

After the end of 30 overs, team India is in deep trouble as their top and middle order which includes the likes of Rohit, Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Shreyas Iyer. The team’s score is 76 runs with a loss of four wickets. Virat Kohli is batting on 12 runs, whereas Jadeja is batting at a score of 7. Both players have hit one boundary each in their innings.

For Australia, the pick of the bowler was veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon, who has troubled India whenever he has played against India whether it’s in home conditions or away conditions. So far he has bowled 11 overs in which he has given away 25 runs and have taken all four wickets in the innings.
