New Zealand and Sri Lanka played out an eventful ODI. This was the second ODI at Galle which was a women’s Championship match. New Zealand racked up a big target and scored 329-7 in their 50 overs. For Sri Lanka, on the other hand, Oshadi Ranasinghe was the most successful bowler for Sri Lanka as she picked up 3-68 in her 10 overs.

In the second innings, A weird incident happened which made it the talk of the town. New Zealand off-spinner Eden Carson bowled the 45th over in the innings. This meant she finished her 10-over quota with impressive figures of 2-40. But due to a serious lapse by the umpires, who did not ensure proper monitoring of the number of overs bowled by Carson, she returned again and bowled the 47th over. After that, her figures read 2-41 from 11 overs.

Lea Tahuhu picked up four wickets for New Zealand against Sri Lanka at Galle

Even though the lapse was a very serious one, it did not change the game in a big way as Sri Lanka could only muster 213 in just 48.4 overs that they played. Lea Tahuhu came steaming in at the Sri Lankans and picked up 4-31 in her 8-over spell. Hannah Rowe, Devine, Kerr and Fran Jonas took a wicket each in their respective spells. In the end, it was a brilliant performance from New Zealand with bat and ball.

Kavisha Dilhari was the only bright spot for the Islanders as she scored a quickfire 84 off 98 balls with nine fours. Her innings did delay the inevitable but New Zealand did register a big win of 116 runs.  While Dilhari showed what she was made of. She was running out of partners when it came to the run chase.  New Zealand showed the big gulf that existed between them and Sri Lanka in ODI cricket through this dominating win.
