‘Aaj bhi no Naagin dance’ – Fans react as Sri Lanka defeat Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2023 by 21 runs

With this win, the Sri Lankan side also registered their 13th consecutive victory in One Day Internationals.

The defending champions of the Asia Cup, Sri Lanka showed yet another clinical performance and remained unbeaten in the 2023 edition of the Asia Cup by defeating the Bangladesh side by 21 runs at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Saturday. With this win, the Sri Lankan side also registered their 13th consecutive victory in One Day Internationals. Along with that with this win Bangladesh team have been eliminated from the Asia Cup 2023.

After winning the toss the Bangladesh skipper, Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and elected to field first citing the threat of rain which would result in the game being shortened. The Sri Lankan team did not have the best start as they lost the opener Dimuth Karunaratne (18) off the bowling of Hasan Mahmud who looked terrific with the new ball. Despite the host losing wickets at regular intervals Sadeera Samarawickrama made sure that the Sri Lankan team reached a respective total. The prolific right-hand batter played a terrific innings of 93 runs off just 72 deliveries with eight boundaries along with two mighty sixes.

Bangladesh suffered a 21-run loss against Sri Lanka

The star with the bat was Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud who took three wickets each and bowled great both with new ball as well as in death overs. In quest of the target of 258 runs, the Bangladesh batting lineup never looked in control of the chase despite taking a solid start of 55 runs. The Bangladesh side had four wickets in the span of 28 runs after a great first-wicket partnership from Mohammad Naim (21) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (28). Towhid Hridoy was the lone wolf for the Bangladesh team who looked league apart from other batters of the Bangladesh team.

The dashing middle-order batter scored a brilliant 82 runs off 97 balls and looked in great form before getting clean bowled off the bowling of Mahesh Theekshana. The stars of the show with the ball in hand for the Sri Lanka team were Theekshana along with skipper Dasun Shanaka and Matheesha Pathirana who took three wickets each.
