In their first home game of the season, Delhi faced defending champions Gujarat at the Arun Jaitley stadium in Delhi on Tuesday. The defending champions beat Delhi by six wickets as they chased 163 runs comfortably in 18.1 overs. However, fans were delighted with glimpses of Rishabh Pant as he made his first public appearance after suffering a major car accident in December last year.

Earlier, after winning the toss, Gujarat skipper Hardik Pandya opted to bowl first at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Put into bat first, Delhi failed to get a good start as opener Prithvi Shaw got trapped by Mohammed Shami for 7 runs off five balls. Shami didn’t stop there and continued to create havoc in Delhi’s camp. He dismissed Mitchell Marsh in his next over as the latter failed to read the ball and got bowled by Shami.

However, skipper David Warner tried to rescue his team as he added 30 runs for the third wicket with Sarfaraz Khan. Warner, in his innings, scored 37 runs off 32 balls with the help of seven boundaries. Meanwhile, Sarfaraz Khan scored 30 runs off 34 balls with the help of two boundaries.

When Delhi were looking stable in the game, Alzarri Joseph shook Delhi’s batting lineup. He dismissed Warner and Rielee Rossouw on consecutive balls to leave Delhi reeling at 67/4.

Although, in the end, Delhi posted a competitive total of 162/8 in 20 overs. Allrounder Axar Patel scored 36 runs off 22 balls with the help of three sixes and two boundaries. For Gujarat, all-rounder Rashid Khan and Mohammed Shami clinched three wickets each, while Joseph clinched two wickets.

Gujarat continue its dominant performance in ITL 2023:

Defending 163 runs with dew and on a small ground, Delhi failed to create pressure on Gujarat. They did manage to clinch wickets at regular intervals but failed to capitalize on the momentum. After 7 overs, Gujarat were on the backfoot when skipper Hardik Pandya left the ground as they were at 54/3.

However, young batters Sai Sudarshan and Vijay Shankar batted well and took the game to the end. Sudarshan and Shankar added 53 runs for the fourth wicket and took the game far away from Delhi. Sudarshan, in his innings, scored unbeaten 62 runs off 48 balls with the help of four boundaries and two sixes.

On the other hand, Shankar scored 29 runs off 23 balls with the help of three boundaries. For Delhi, Anrich Nortije shone brightly with the ball as he clinched two wickets.
