Yashasvi Jaiswal gave another glimpse of his immense potential as he smashed 104 on day three of the ongoing Rajkot Test against England. His knock has now put India in a commanding position to win the game and take a 2-1 lead in the 5-match series.
Facing a potent English bowling attack, Jaiswal dug deep and showed remarkable composure. His 133-ball knock was a masterclass in patience and determination. He weathered the storm early on, playing with solidity before unleashing his attacking instincts later in his innings. The 22-year-old left-hander struck 9 fours and 5 sixes, showcasing his elegant strokeplay which captivated the Rajkot crowd. His partnership with Shubman Gill was crucial in building a strong foundation for India’s innings.
Back spasm intervenes!
However, just when it seemed Jaiswal was set for a big one, he retired hurt on 104. The retirement was taken on the insistence of batting coach Vikram Rathour and captain Rohit Sharma, possibly as a precautionary measure considering that Jaiswal was experiencing a back spasm.
Despite the retirement, Jaiswal’s knock has sent another strong message of what his future holds. He has shown that he belongs on the big stage and has the temperament to handle pressure situations. His ability to bat for long periods and his knack for scoring runs quickly make him a valuable asset to the Indian team. Jaiswal will likely return to resume his innings at some point tomorrow. At stumps, India’s score was 196-2 with Gill and night-watchman, Kuldeep Yadav at the crease. India will be looking to bat for atleast two more sessions tomorrow to bat the visitors out of the game. England on the other hand, will need early wickets to dismiss India and keep their hopes alive.
